Employer counts are the steadier measure: the Bay Area has the most employers (64) even though New York has slightly more postings. Palantir alone has 25 of the 75 Washington, DC area postings and 24 of New York's 152.
US vs outside the US
386 postings list only US locations, 291 list only non-US locations, 31 mix both, and 17 are unclear. Outside the US the most-listed metros are London (77 postings, 27 employers), Singapore (22, 13), Munich (15, 9), Sydney (15, 8) and Toronto (15, 6). Office location is not where the work happens
Treat the listed city as a home base, with time at customer sites on top. 59.3% of the 725 postings mention travel (published on the salary page) and the skills page counts travel in 58.8% of 563 engineer postings (requirements index).
Method and data
The population is the same 725 postings as the salary and job titles pages: public Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby and Workday boards, pulled October 24, 2026, with agencies and duplicates removed. Metro matching uses patterns (Bay Area includes Palo Alto, Mountain View, San Jose and related cities; DC area includes Arlington, McLean, Reston and Herndon); 161 postings name no matched metro. Remote listed means the board marks remote or a listed location contains "Remote"; the Coinbase pay-zone label "US - Remote Zone 1" is not counted.
The salary page's 26.3% remote figure (191 postings) counts only the remote field in the posting file, which did not read Ashby, Lever or Workday location text; this index reads both, hence 27.4%. The salary page's top-locations line counts the first listed location only (New York 93, San Francisco Bay Area 83); this index counts every listed location.
