Do forward deployed engineer jobs sponsor visas?
Published
Most FDE postings say nothing about visas. Across 651 engineer and deployment-strategist posting texts from the October 24, 2026 public-board snapshot, 623 postings (95.7%) state no sponsorship stance after hand review. Of the 28 that do, 13 say they sponsor (including country-limited or reasonable-effort wording), 14 say they cannot, and 1 says new sponsorship is generally unavailable while existing transfers may be considered. Separately, 46 postings require citizenship, permanent residence, or U.S. Person status for export-controlled technology, federal contracts, or clearance. Silence on a posting is not a no. Policy is set per employer and can change; these figures are what postings said on the October 25 and 28, 2026 text pulls. This page is not legal or immigration advice.
Headline figures from the hand review
Denominator: 566 engineer-title texts pulled October 25, 2026 and 85 deployment-strategist texts pulled October 28, 2026 (651 combined) from the October 24, 2026 public-board snapshot. Keyword seed (visa / immigration / sponsor / work authorization / right to work / authorized to work / citizenship / citizen / green card / permanent resident) hit 154 postings. After hand classification:
| Measure | Combined (651) | Engineer (566) | Deployment strategist (85) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Keyword matches | 154 (23.7%) | 135 | 19 |
| Sponsors visas | 13 | 12 | 1 |
| No sponsorship | 14 | 14 | 0 |
| Transfer only or case by case | 1 | 1 | 0 |
| Citizenship or export control | 46 | 46 | 0 |
| Noise-only keyword matches | 89 | 71 | 18 |
| Silent on sponsorship stance | 623 (95.7%) | No sponsors / no_sponsorship / transfer-only label | |
A posting can carry more than one non-noise label. Nine postings do (for example C3 AI and Tagup combine no sponsorship with a citizenship requirement; Reflection AI combines sponsorship with an export-control notice). Category rows above are posting counts per label, so they can sum above the 65 unique postings with any non-noise policy signal. Sponsorship-stance silence uses only the sponsors, no_sponsorship, and transfer-only labels.
What the wording means
Sponsors means the posting says the employer sponsors visas. That includes Anthropic's "We do sponsor visas" with a reasonable-effort caveat, Reflection AI's sponsorship-support benefit line, Sim's short "We sponsor visas," n8n's Germany-only sponsorship, and Scale AI Qatar seats that say Scale will support the visa application process (issuance stays with Qatari authorities).
No sponsorship means the posting states sponsorship is not available, or requires work authorization that does not now or in the future need sponsorship. Nearform, 84.51°, Accenture US seats, Workday, Runpod, and Tagup use that pattern. C3 AI federal seats combine it with a U.S. citizenship requirement.
Transfer only or case by case covers wording like Render's: generally not eligible for new visa sponsorship, while existing transfers may be sponsored at discretion. That posting was closed when live-checked for this page; the quoted phrase is from the October text pull.
Citizenship or export control is separate from visa policy. It covers U.S. Person / citizenship lines for export-controlled technology (Cloudflare, CoreWeave, Saronic, Analog Devices, Tomorrow.io), federal or clearance citizenship (Databricks public sector, Salesforce Missionforce, Booz Allen, Palantir green-card-or-citizen, Defense Unicorns), and Together AI's Singapore citizen or permanent resident line. Export-license sponsorship language is counted in this category. It is not visa sponsorship. Clearance sponsorship is also excluded from the visa-sponsorship counts.
Sponsorship stance by employer
Employers below are the ones that state a sponsorship stance in this corpus. Counts are postings, not headcount. FDE Dispatch claims no affiliation with the employers listed.
Says it sponsors
| Employer | Postings |

| Anthropic | 4 |
| Reflection AI | 4 |
| n8n | 2 |

Render is the only transfer-only / case-by-case posting in this pull (1). Citizenship or export-control labels are concentrated at Cloudflare (10), Saronic (8), Databricks (6), Reflection AI (4, also sponsors), C3 AI (3), Analog Devices (3), and Salesforce (3), with single-posting employers including Palantir, CoreWeave, Picogrid, Tomorrow.io, Booz Allen Hamilton, Defense Unicorns, and Together AI.
US-located vs non-US-located seats
Location flags come from the requirements-index location fields on each matched posting (us_location: true, false, mixed, or unspecified).
| Label | US-located | Non-US-located | Mixed | Unspecified |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sponsors | 6 | 7 | 0 | 0 |
| No sponsorship | 11 | 2 | 0 | 1 |
| Transfer only | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 |
| Citizenship or export control | 35 | 10 | 0 | 1 |
No-sponsorship language clusters on US-located seats (11 of 14). Citizenship or export-control language is also mostly US-located (35 of 46), as expected for export-control and federal clearance seats. Sponsors split more evenly (6 US-located, 7 non-US-located), reflecting Anthropic hybrid location fields, Reflection AI UK seats, Scale AI Qatar seats, and n8n's Germany-only line on a US East Coast posting.
Most FDE postings never state a visa stance. When you need sponsorship, target employers that say they sponsor and ask the recruiter early. FDE Dispatch is a one-to-one program that trains working engineers for the customer-facing interview rounds those hiring loops use.

What the keyword seed also hits
Of the 154 keyword matches, 89 are noise only: the text matches a seed term, but the posting does not state a visa sponsorship stance or a citizenship / export-control requirement. Common noise in this pull:
- EEO boilerplate that lists citizenship as a protected class (46 noise-only postings carry that language).
- Accenture "citizen services" marketing copy (24 noise-only postings).
- Executive sponsor, CEO-sponsored initiative, or C-suite-sponsored opportunity language (18), including Databricks deployment-strategist seats and Cursor Forward Deployed Strategist seats.
- Visa the payments company or Visa Ventures in customer or investor lists (5).
- Nebius work-authorization eligibility lines that do not state a sponsorship stance (5).
- Parloa E-Verify / I-9 employment-authorization boilerplate (4).
- Company-sponsored 401(k) or team events, PE deal sponsors, and product "sponsorship measurement" language.
Practical next steps if you need sponsorship
Ask the recruiter early, before a full interview loop. Target employers that state they sponsor in the posting. Treat silence as unknown. A blank posting is not a refusal: 95.7% of postings in this corpus never state a sponsorship stance. Read citizenship and export-control lines carefully; those seats may be closed to most sponsored candidates even when the same employer sponsors other roles. For location context on where seats sit, see Forward Deployed Engineer jobs by location. For how early-career seats read experience, see Entry-level Forward Deployed Engineer jobs.
Official U.S. government overviews of nonimmigrant employment categories are published by USCIS (Working in the United States). Host-country rules outside the U.S. are set by that country's authorities. This page does not interpret either for an individual case.
Method and data
Population: 566 engineer-title posting texts pulled October 25, 2026 and 85 deployment-strategist posting texts pulled October 28, 2026 from the October 24, 2026 public-board FDE snapshot (Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workday). Management titles from that snapshot are not in this corpus. Keyword seed: visa, immigration, sponsor, work authorization, right to work, authorized to work, citizenship, citizen, green card, permanent resident. Every one of the 154 matches was hand-classified into sponsors, no_sponsorship, transfer_only_or_case_by_case, citizenship_or_export_control, noise, or a combination of non-noise labels.
Limits: keyword matching is approximate; hand review is what produces the published counts. Postings close; check the url before relying on a row. Employers that post only on LinkedIn, Indeed, or other applicant systems are missing. Evidence links were live-checked November 3, 2026; the Render transfer-only posting returned HTTP 404 and is labeled closed.

Questions people ask
Do forward deployed engineer jobs sponsor visas?
Most FDE postings in this corpus say nothing about visa sponsorship. Across 651 engineer and deployment-strategist posting texts, only 28 postings (4.3%) state a sponsorship stance after hand review: 13 say they sponsor (including country-limited or reasonable-effort wording), 14 say they do not sponsor, and 1 says new sponsorship is generally unavailable while transfers may be considered. Silence on a posting is not a no.
How many FDE postings mention visas or work authorization?
A keyword seed for visa, immigration, sponsor, work authorization, right to work, authorized to work, citizenship, citizen, green card, and permanent resident matched 154 of 651 postings (23.7%). After hand classification, 89 of those matches were noise only. 65 postings carried at least one non-noise policy label (sponsorship stance and/or citizenship or export-control wording).
Which employers say they sponsor FDE visas?
In this corpus, Anthropic (4 postings), Reflection AI (4), n8n (2, Germany-only), Scale AI (2 Qatar seats that say Scale will support the visa application process), and Sim (1) state that they sponsor or will support visas. Wording ranges from "We do sponsor visas" with reasonable-effort caveats to country-limited sponsorship.
What does U.S. citizenship or export-control language mean on an FDE posting?
46 postings require citizenship, permanent residence, or U.S. Person status for export-controlled technology, federal contracts, or clearance eligibility. That is a separate category from visa sponsorship. Export-license sponsorship language (for example Cloudflare) is counted as citizenship or export control. It is not visa policy. Clearance sponsorship is excluded from the visa-sponsorship counts.
What should a candidate who needs sponsorship do?
Ask the recruiter early, before investing in a full loop. Target employers that state they sponsor in the posting text. Treat silence as unknown. A blank posting is not a refusal. Read citizenship and export-control lines carefully: those seats may be closed to most sponsored candidates even when the employer sponsors other roles. Policy is set per employer and can change; these figures are what postings said on the October 25 and 28, 2026 text pulls.
