Cursor Forward Deployed Engineer: what the postings ask for
Published
Cursor posts Forward Deployed Engineer seats in San Francisco, Australia, London (EMEA), India and Japan, Forward Deployed Strategist seats listed as Remote, London and Singapore, and Regional Director, Forward Deployed Engineering seats in San Francisco, Singapore and Washington, D.C. (Public Sector). In FDE Dispatch's November 3, 2026 snapshot of public job boards, Cursor has 11 in-page postings, tied for 10th of 114 employers with Scale AI (9 employers have more). Four of the five engineer postings ask for 5+ years of experience, and all five ask for AI workflows built, owned and debugged in production. Cursor's job board marks 6 of the 11 as remote. None of the 11 list pay or state a travel percentage. All 11 were still listed on November 5, 2026. FDE Dispatch is not affiliated with Cursor or SpaceX; the figures come from Cursor's public job postings.
What Cursor calls the role
Cursor posts under three title tracks: Forward Deployed Engineer, Forward Deployed Strategist, and Regional Director, Forward Deployed Engineering. On Cursor's job board all 11 sit in the Solutions department, on a team named Forward Deployment. Two live titles changed after the snapshot: the Australia engineer posting now reads Forward Deployed Engineer (Australia), and the Singapore Regional Director posting adds (Singapore). Deployment strategist vs forward deployed engineer and Forward Deployed Engineering manager compare those tracks across employers.
Cursor has been part of SpaceX since August 14, 2026 (Cursor's announcement), and all 11 posting texts open with a SpaceX company description. Four engineer texts ask you to Design and ship production agents, AI applications, and coding-agent workflows on Grok and our models, on live business processes and inside the customer’s engineering org (San Francisco, EMEA, Australia, Japan). The India engineer text and the Regional Director texts in San Francisco and Singapore describe production-grade Cursor workflows (India, San Francisco, Singapore).
Strategist and engineer seats are paired: You'll typically work in a pod of one Strategist and 1-2 FDEs. (Remote, London, Singapore)
| Track | Postings | Places | Listed as remote |
|---|---|---|---|
| Forward Deployed Engineer | 5 | San Francisco; Australia; London; Bengaluru; Japan | 2 of 5 |

What the engineer postings ask for
Four of the five engineer texts state You have 5+ years of experience in software engineering, machine learning engineering, or data science (San Francisco, EMEA, Australia, Japan). The India text gives no number. The same four list 2+ years in a customer-facing role, leading discovery conversations and being accountable for outcomes for external stakeholders as nice to have.
All five name Python and TypeScript or JavaScript. Four say You write and review production code (Python, JavaScript/TypeScript; other languages welcome), and India says You’re strong in Python and TypeScript/JavaScript and can ramp quickly on new stacks. The Japan posting adds Fluency in both Japanese and English.
Each engineer text says This is not a demo role. Four ask for You’ve built and owned AI-native workflows or agents in production, and debugged real production failures (model, tool, data, pipeline, or delivery path). India asks for You’ve built and owned AI-native workflows in production, not just prototypes, and have debugged real-world model failures.
Production quality sits with the engineer in all five. Four say Own production quality: tracing, evals, debugging model or delivery failures, and latency and cost tradeoffs, and India says Own production quality: tracing, evals, metrics, debugging model behavior, latency/cost tradeoffs, and failure modes. The four longer texts list the systems around the model as tools, MCP servers, retrieval, rules, skills, CI gates, and evals, name eval harnesses among nice-to-have depth areas, and ask you to Measure the outcome that matters (revenue, cost, hours saved, error rate, cycle time, escaped defects), not seat adoption. The cadence is the same in all five: Get a first version live in days, then harden it over weeks with rollout, monitoring, and iteration from real usage in four, and Ship a fast first version in days, then harden it into something reliable over weeks in India.
The full skill counts across employers are on Forward Deployed Engineer skills.
Forward Deployed Strategist postings
All three strategist texts ask for 6+ years in Solutions Architecture, Deployment Strategy, technical consulting, or an Engagement Manager seat where you owned scoping and delivery with a technical team in AI-production workflows (Remote, London, Singapore). The strategist holds the account: You own the executive relationship and the shape of delivery; the FDE embeds with the customer's team and owns the deeper production builds.
Code on this track is a reading skill: the strategist can read enough Python / JS-TS to partner with an FDE. The Remote and London texts ask you to be hands-on with Cursor workflows; the Singapore text says hands-on with Grok workflows. All three call Domain depth in FSI, insurance, telecom, high-tech, healthcare/life sciences, or semiconductor a strong plus.
Regional Director postings
The San Francisco and Singapore Regional Director texts ask for 8+ years of experience leading technical teams that build and ship in production and describe a team of 6 to 8 Forward Deployed Engineers (San Francisco, Singapore). Both measure the work at day 30: The measure of success is what's different at day 30, not what got shipped. All three Regional Director texts mention six- and seven-figure engagements and a partner FDE track with GSI and consulting partners. Languages are Python, Javascript/Typescript in San Francisco and Singapore and Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript in Public Sector.
The Public Sector text states no years number and asks for Experience directly managing a team of engineers who build and ship production software. Under the heading Preferred skills and experience, it states U.S. citizenship required. Active security clearance (Public Trust, Secret, Top Secret, or TS/SCI) or ability to obtain one. The security clearance guide counts engineer and strategist titles, so this Regional Director seat is outside its figures.
Where the roles are and how many are remote
Four of the 11 are US-located: the San Francisco engineer, the Remote strategist (with New York and San Francisco), the San Francisco Regional Director and the Public Sector Regional Director. Six are outside the US, and the London strategist lists London, New York and Remote.
Cursor's job board marks 6 of the 11 as remote: the EMEA and Japan engineer seats, all three strategist seats and the Singapore Regional Director. That is 54.5%, against 168 of 704 (23.9%) across the snapshot. The San Francisco engineer posting lists Remote as a secondary location, but its workplace type is On-site, so the snapshot counts it as on-site. The India engineer posting has no workplace type and says This role will be based in all 3 cities: Bengaluru, New Delhi and Mumbai. The Singapore Regional Director text says This role will be based in all 3 cities: Bengaluru, Mumbai and New Delhi. None of the 11 texts state an office-attendance rule.
Metro figures for every employer are on Forward Deployed Engineer jobs by location.
Every Cursor engineer posting asks for AI workflows you have built, owned and debugged in production. FDE Dispatch gives you one to point to: you ship a live AI deployment in a real business, coached one-to-one, with an evaluation suite that records before-and-after results, and you rehearse the rounds in recorded interview simulations with written feedback.
Pay as posted
None of the 11 Cursor postings list pay. The job board's compensation fields are empty and no range appears in the texts, so this page gives no Cursor pay figure. Across the snapshot, 363 of 704 in-page postings carry a range; employer ranges and the US engineer-title median are on Forward Deployed Engineer salary.
Travel, visa and degree lines
None of the 11 texts mention travel, against 424 of 704 snapshot postings that do. Employer travel figures are on how much forward deployed engineers travel.
None carry a visa sponsorship line. The word sponsor appears only in executive sponsor wording, and the visa sponsorship guide files Cursor's three strategist texts as noise for that reason. None state a degree or education requirement; employer education rules are on do you need a degree to be a forward deployed engineer.
What this means if you are preparing for a Cursor loop
- Pick the track by the work. Engineer seats build and ship. Strategist seats own the executive relationship and the configuration layer next to 1-2 FDEs. Regional Directors lead teams of 6 to 8 engineers and scope engagements with Sales.
- Bring one production AI workflow you owned. Four engineer texts ask for You’ve owned a customer or operator outcome, not just a slide or a prototype, and can turn a fuzzy problem into a scoped, shipped system. Be ready to walk through the failures you debugged, the tracing and evals you used, and the metric that moved.
- Prepare a repo-level example. Four engineer texts name AI-native coding workflows in a real repo as a depth area, and India lists large-scale refactors, migrations, PR review loops among the workflows you would build.
- Read the location line. Six seats are listed as remote. The India engineer and Singapore Regional Director texts name three Indian cities, and the Public Sector seat requires U.S. citizenship.
Round formats for FDE loops are on the FDE interview loop, explained, and practice prompts on FDE interview practice questions.
Live check November 5, 2026
On November 5, 2026 (PT), FDE Dispatch re-fetched Cursor's public Ashby job board API. All 11 snapshot postings were still listed, with no pay fields filled, and no new FDE-family posting had opened since November 3. The same board lists 7 AI Deployment Manager and Regional Director, AI Deployment postings on a separate Customer Success team; their titles fall outside the snapshot's title rule, so they are not counted here. Posting links on this page go to cursor.com/careers, which serves the same texts.
Method and data
Population: the 11 Cursor rows counted in page statistics among the 704 FDE-family postings from 114 employers in the November 3, 2026 postings snapshot. All 11 come from Cursor's public Ashby board. Rank by posting count is 10th, tied with Scale AI at 11; 9 employers have more.
Track comes from the title. Remote and workplace figures come from the snapshot rows; years, languages, production lines and the clearance line are hand-verified from the posting texts re-fetched November 5, 2026. Counts are open postings on one day and do not measure headcount.
